Lest you think that life with my Eldest Son is all challenge and no reward, I'll offer this little gem that fell from his lips earlier today...
We were all riding in the car, taking Precious Princess to preschool summer camp. Conversation with the backseat went like this:
Eldest Son: Hey, you know what I just noticed? -- People don't have hair on the palms of our hands!
(hey - get your mind out of the gutter, he's six years old fer pete's sake!)
Me : Mm-hm. That's true.
E.S.: Or our lips either. -- I wonder why?
Me: I don't know; I guess you'll just have to ask God when you see him someday.
E.S.: Well, but when I get to Heaven, I won't need to ask him.
Me: That's probably true, too.
E.S.: -- Because Heaven, when you're with God all the time, then you'll know everything he knows, so you won't need to ask.
(a few minutes later)
E.S.: You know what I think Heaven might be like? I think it might be like this great big enormous tree, and every time a person dies, it's like they become a teensy tinesy part of this tree.
Me: Yeah -- that's a beautiful image, honey. -- Like a leaf.
E.S.: No, I was thinking more like a molecule. Something so teensy that you can't see it. -- And the tree just keeps growing and growing, forever.
(on second thought)
E.S.: Or, maybe Heaven is like the tree, and the people are like the bugs crawling up and down it.
(third thought)
E.S.: Well, I think Heaven is happiness and happiness, that goes on forever and ever, and never stops.
Went for a walk in the woods up near Traverse City, looking for evidence of cougars. Had just read a magazine article examine the case for cougars repopulating Michigan, migrating from out west.
Originally went just for a walk in the woods; but started seeing strange marks on the trees, and went back for my camera.
Cougar? You decide. Might be just bobcats, apparently those are fairly common. Definitely some kind of large cat though.
Note that the tree pictured was a good 5 inches in diameter. These first 2 shots are from my eye level.
Get a load of the size of the wood splinters on the forest floor.
The scratch marks in this last shot were at least 10 - 12 feet up.
